COVID-19: Mayors Message

As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the world, our community is feeling the effects.  It is very hard to get used to the idea of isolation and social distancing however, I must continue to re-enforce the necessity in keeping yourself and others safe.

As per the Alberta Health Services recommendation, the Village playground has been closed.  In addition, Palliser Regional Schools have also closed their playground.  It is the intent of the Village to not open the campground at this time, which also means no access to the bathroom or trailer dump.  Those currently staying at the campground have been asked to vacate within the month.

During these ‘flatten the curve’ times of physical distancing, frequent handwashing, service closures, and self-isolation, celebrating the good and remaining socially connected are more important than ever.

We are proud to hear stories of neighbours coming together in creative ways to maintain social interaction while practising physical separation. From picking up the phone and offering to shop for neighbours, the residents of our community are taking the time to check on the health and wellness of their friends and neighbours.  We wish to ask people to continue to reach out to those who are immunocompromised, elderly or in self isolation, to assist them without compromising your own health and safety.

I would be remiss if I didn’t give thanks to all of the frontline workers such as health care workers, truck drivers, and those who are working to keep our services and food stores operating.  We thank you all!

We want to assure the citizens of Barons that we are in good hands with the staff, firefighters and amazing community volunteers who are stepping up to assist their neighbours where needed in this challenging time.

Finally a reminder that if you can, stay home.  If not, please be aware of social distancing when shopping, make sure you wash your hands frequently, and do not touch your face.  Let’s do our part to help slow down the spread however possible.  We all have a responsibility to make an effort or to not take things for granted, so please remember to be kind, courteous and safe.

Ed Weistra, Mayor
Village of Barons
